Free online PDF tool

Resize PDF

Put every page — or only the ones you pick — on new paper: A4, A3, A5, Letter, Legal, Tabloid, or a width and height of your own. Nothing is cropped or stretched: each page’s content is scaled to fit the new size whole and centred on it, and the margins that leaves take the page’s background colour, which you can change or remove. Turn pages a quarter at a time while you are there. The resized PDF is rebuilt on our server by the same writer as the editor’s download, so links and comments move with the page.

What it does

Resize PDF, at a glance.

  • Put pages on A4, Letter, Legal, A3 or a custom size
  • Change or remove the page background colour
  • Turn pages 90° at a time, one page or all of them

This tool needs a server. The file is sent over an encrypted connection, processed, and the copy there is deleted as soon as the result is sent back — unless you are signed in and asked to keep it.

Step by step

How to resize a PDF

  1. Drop a PDF onto the page, or choose one from your machine. Every page appears as a thumbnail, drawn as it will come out, and the first one is shown large in the preview; click any page to preview it instead.
  2. Choose what the changes apply to — all pages, the page in the preview, or only the pages you select by ticking their boxes or typing a range — then pick a paper size, a background colour and a turn.
  3. Download the resized PDF. Undo, Redo and Reset are there until you do.

Questions

Resize PDF: questions and answers

No. A page’s content is never cropped or stretched: the whole of it is scaled to fit the new paper, keeping its proportions, and centred there. When the new paper is a different shape, the space left at the sides or at the top and bottom takes the page’s background colour. To cut margins away instead, use Crop PDF.
