Terms of use

The rules for using cherrypdf. Short, because there is nothing to buy and nothing to subscribe to.

Last updated 28 September 2026

The short version. cherrypdf is free to use, with no watermark and no account required to use the PDF tools; downloading a result or sending a signature request needs a free account. Use it on documents you have the right to use it on. It is provided as it is, without a warranty — for anything that genuinely matters, keep your own copy of the original.

Using cherrypdf

Every tool is free. There is no paid tier at present, no watermark on anything you download, and no sign-up required to use the PDF tools. Downloading a result needs a free account, and a copy you choose to keep is stored in that account. An account is also required to send a PDF for signature; the people you send it to do not need one.

You keep every right in the documents you open. Using cherrypdf does not give us any claim over them, and for fourteen of the eighteen tools we never receive them in the first place.

What you agree not to do

  • Use the tools on documents you have no right to modify — in particular, Remove a PDF's password only removes a password from a file you can already open, because you know the password or because only the advisory permission bits were set. It is not a way into a document you are locked out of, and it must not be used to get around protection on someone else's file.
  • Upload anything unlawful, or anything you do not have the right to send us.
  • Attack the service: automated abuse, attempts to overwhelm it, or attempts to reach another account's data.
  • Resell access to the conversion service or run it as a backend for your own product.

We may rate-limit or block use that is doing any of the above, and close an account that keeps doing it.

Accounts

You are responsible for keeping your password to yourself and for what happens under your account. Tell us if you think someone else has got into it. You can close the account whenever you like, from your settings.

An account is not an archive. Files you save to it are deleted automatically 30 days after they were uploaded, and drafts you save in the editor 30 days after they were first saved, however recently they were edited. No reminder is sent, so keep your own copy of anything you need for longer. Signature requests and their audit trails are not covered by this rule; the privacy policy says how long they are kept.

The service is provided as it is

cherrypdf is offered without warranty of any kind. PDF is a large and old format and real-world files are strange in ways no tool handles perfectly: a conversion may lose formatting, a compression may not shrink much, an edit may not land where you expect.

Keep the original of anything you cannot afford to lose. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for lost or damaged documents, for lost profits, or for any indirect loss arising from using cherrypdf. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Availability

We do not promise the service will be available at any particular time, and we may change or withdraw tools. The in-browser tools keep working in a tab you already have open regardless of whether our servers are up, because they were never using them.

Privacy

What happens to your documents and your account data is set out in the privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.

Changes

If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them. Continuing to use cherrypdf after that means the new terms apply.
